Here's a good story, the area of Chenobyl home to the world's worst nuclear accident and still one of the most contaminated areas, has become a natural sanctuary for wildlife. Because the area was deserted, the lack of any humans has meant the local wildlife has flourished. Mary Mycio, author of Wormwood Forest, a natural history of the Chernobyl zone, points out that the benefits to wildlife of removing people from the zone, have far outweighed any harm from the radiation of the area.
