Any one else worried??

Posted by liam on May 23, 2006 12:17 PM

I read this article today and my blood ran cold. Google is seeking to develop a new site which has artificial intelligence. Now i'm not one for scare mongering but isnt that what happened in the Terminator, oh sure they'll tell you that it's just to help improve it's search functions. But what if Google is getting too powerful and too smart. Mark my words friends, in a few years time we're all going to be under the control of dreadful Google Robots. Sleek white robots which can search the world in seconds, we'd stand no chance.

Maybe i'm just getting paranoid after drinking too much coffee this morning??

Wireless Liverpool?

Posted by liam on May 19, 2006 2:00 PM

I've not heard of this story in the Liverpool Echo (or if it's been featured i've not spotted it) but according to the BBC, Liverpool is one of 12 cities in the UK to get a citywide Wireless internet network. In theory this would mean that you could have a laptop connect to the internet absolutely anywhere without needing wires or anything. You could check your emails etc whilst sitting in the park or what not.

This sounds like a pretty nice idea, but i wouldnt like to only use the cities wireless connection for things like only shopping, or banking as wifi connections are notoriously unsecure. Still if they can iron out the problems with security this sounds like an interesting scheme, well worth keeping an eye on.

Piano buried on top of Ben Nevis

Posted by liam on May 17, 2006 7:53 PM

Here's a really funny story. Conservationists have found the remains of a piano at the summit of Britain's tallest mountain. However they were unable to play anything on it because the keyboard was missing.

Germany's Robin Hood gang

Posted by liam on May 17, 2006 12:20 PM

Here's a great story A gang in Germany dressed up as Superheroes have stolen a trolley load of luxury food items from a store and handed it out amongst low paid workers, such as office interns and nursery staff.

All for law and order and all that stuff, but i cannot help but like this gang and hope the police never catch them. Te items they stole came to over £1,500 and include a £68 bottle of champagne and a load of Kobe beef (the worlds most expensive beef which is produced in japan, fed beer and massaged daily)

Happy birthday to my CD collection

Funny Videos to watch

Posted by liam on May 11, 2006 10:12 PM

Matrix style slow motion bullets, this is really cool and surprisingly relaxing to watch almost hypnotic.

This is very funny to watch, but i happen to think making anyone do sit ups is cruel, so if you have a problem with animal exploitation do not look. Anyways here is a walrus doing situps

McKinnock faces extradition

Posted by liam on May 10, 2006 12:10 PM

Gary McKinnock, British hacker who cracked the security of the US army, navy, airforce and NASA risks extradition to the US and possibly Guantanimo bay. However UK computer geeks, and his defence lawyers are claiming he is being made a political example by the US government for the sake of saving face. A more detailed story, including an interview with McKinnock can be seen on the BBC's website here

Next Gen Consoles

Posted by liam on May 10, 2006 12:00 PM

This week has been E3, which is the big party for all the people who make computer games. So quite a lot has happened:

The Playstation 3 will be coming out this November for around £350, a pretty hefty price tag even if it does appear to be the most powerful of the machines.

Microsoft is to release a HD DVD playing version of its Xbox 360 games console. This means you will be able to play the new supposedly better quality High Definition DVD disks on its console. Which will be in direct competition with the Sony PS3 which will instead play Blue Ray Disks0 (different type of High Definition DVD).

Nintendo in the meantime is saying its games console Wii (still a silly name) will sell its console for a cheaper price than its competitors, and hopes its catalogue of games (including the latest game in the Legend of Zelda series the Twilight Princess and also the newest Mario game) will inspire gamers to choose them.

Screw the salads

Posted by liam on May 8, 2006 9:00 AM

In complete defiance of the healthy eating fad which has gripped the UK recently, McDonalds has decided to release a new Bigger Big Mc for the World Cup. Can't see Jamie Oliver or Gillian McKeith being too happy about this.

Update: Henry has found love

Posted by liam on May 3, 2006 3:00 PM

Our friend Henry the turtle has finally got him self a lady friend, after being alone for over 50 years, in the form of Ottey the turle. Hey there's hope for us all, though i don't fancy having to wait 50 years like him.

Good luck to Henry and Ottey

World's Biggest Burger?

Posted by liam on May 3, 2006 12:00 PM

Here's another funny story from Supersizedmeals.com, an article about America's love for giant hamburgers. This story is about a burger that when finished weighed almost 15kgs (30lbs) and had to be cut with a machete knife.

Football House

Posted by liam on May 3, 2006 12:00 PM

How cool is this house, an architect has built a football shaped house, admittingly it doesnt look much like a football, more like a giant wooden dodecarhedron.

Thanks Zuhra for the link.

Mummy i need a Wii

Posted by liam on May 3, 2006 12:00 PM

This made me laugh, Nintendo is to change the name of their computer games console from Revolution to Wii. The word 'ii' supposedly means Good in Japanese, and they have chosen Wii because it is easy to remember, and they hope it will encourage users to consider themselves as a community, Wii (we).

Not sure the name will go down quite as planned in the UK.

Brutus vs Chainsaw

Posted by liam on May 2, 2006 9:00 AM

I'm not a fan of early mornings, and frankly i think that Brutus was entirely justified in smashing up the chainsaw that woke him up and i think the storm clearance worker was justified in giving Brutus the chainsaw. By the way Brutus is a crocodile and I too would agree with anything a crocodile has to say if it's threatening to eat me.
