Did you know on this day...
Posted by liam on June 26, 2006 12:00 PM
In 1284 (According to Legend) The Pied Piper reappeared in the German town of Hamelin. He led away 130 children with his pipe.
In 1830 England's fattest king, George IV, died. King George IV would more often than not start the day with his favourite breakfast of two pigeons, three beefsteaks, a bottle of Moselle wine, a glass of champagne, two glasses of port and one of brandy. Although he is known as England's fattest King, he lived to ripe old age of 67, which in the early 19th Century was a very age. So much for low cholesterol
In 1939 the first national serviceman's number 10000001 was issued to Private Rupert Alexander of the Middlesex Regiment
In 1963 President Kennedy made his 'Ich bin ein Berliner' speech. He meant to say "I'm a Berliner" and indicate America's support for the freedom of West Germany. However what it actually meant was "I am a doughnut".
Some interesting tech news from the BBC

The world's fastest silicon-based microchip has been demonstrated by scientists in the US. The prototype operates at speeds up to 500 gigahertz (GHz), more than 100 times faster than desktop PC chips. which is an absolutely astounding breakthrough, except that they have to be supercooled using liquid helium. No doubt they'll be part of the next model of iPods
A device that could foil movie pirates who covertly record films in cinemas has been developed in the US. The prototype is able to locate the position of a digital camera, before overwhelming it with white light to render any recorded images useless. This device could also prevent espionage by preventing digital cameras taking pictures of sensitive places, such as in government buildings etc. However this technology doesn't do anything for traditional SLR or film cameras. Back to the drawing board boys...
When's this chap coming to Liverpool??

Here's a good story. A SCRUM broke out in a mid Wales town when a mystery man hurled thousands of pounds into the air in a busy town centre.
Passers-by dashed across the street to fill their pockets after he shouted: "Who wants free money?"
A police spokeswoman said officers were investigating a motoring offence in connection with the incident.
Not one to support bullfighting but this story is funny
Posted by liam on June 21, 2006 12:11 PM
On this day in 1890 Unlucky matador Luis Freg was born. This little Mexican was injured more often than any other bullfighter. He was gored an estimated 57 times by bulls, and given the Last Rites five times. He quit the ring in one piece, but drowned two years later.
Though it should be noted that he may actually have been born in 1988, there is some historical argument about what year he was born
Funny Videos to watch

Matrix style slow motion bullets, almost hypnotic to watch.
This is very funny to watch, but i happen to think making anyone do sit ups is cruel, so if you have a problem with animal exploitation do not look. Anyways here is a walrus doing situps

Microsoft has been pretty busy recently, It has been offering people the chance to test the early version of its new operating system Windows Vista. Might try it myself later to see what the fuss is all about.
It has also recently released a new version of Windows Defender. A free anti virus and security program, pretty good especially the price, if your interested click here.
And then today news has been released that one of the biggest security updates for more than a year is due to released by Microsoft to fix 12 software flaws. IF you want to download the update click here and then click update.
Worth clicking on the links and getting your software updated.
Guardian expanding further online
Posted by liam on June 12, 2006 11:52 AM
From tomorrow, the Guardian will publish stories first to the web, ending the primacy of the printed newspaper. An interesting development, for both newspapers and online news. The Guardian Unlimited is an excellent news site, with an enormous archive of stories, which has made it the UK's number 1 online newspaper. It will be interesting
This really made me laugh this weekend

The BBC reported this story over the weekend, really made me laugh. Superman Returns director Bryan Singer has played down newspaper, magazine and internet speculation that his version of the superhero is gay.
One of my favourite sites on the internet is one about how Superman is not Gay, but is in fact an evil git. The American National Lampoon site, has an entire section proving the theory that Superman is a Dick.
little people BIG FOOD
Posted by liam on June 9, 2006 11:53 AM
Supersized meals has a great photo section of a French artists work. It shows pictures of miniture people in crazy poses on food.... OK i admit sounds bizare but its pretty cool, imagine tiny soldiers battling through a jungle of lettuce, miners digging their way through giant pieces of chocolate, cyclists racing across a doughnut. Well worth checking out.
Here's a link to the original French site, note it is written in French and also in Flash format so a little difficult to navigate.
As i was saying
Posted by liam on June 7, 2006 11:19 AM
On this day in 1946 British television resumed service for the first time after the Second World War. The first words on air from Leslie Mitchell were: "As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted..."

This one just sounds creepy. Doctors have performed the UK's first beating heart operation, that is removing and replacing a heart whilst it is still beating. I don't fancy having my beating heart removed though.

Posted by liam on June 2, 2006 11:23 AM
A Conwy-based businessman has come up with health pills, for your car The independent distributor sells Miles Per Gallon Caplets - MPG-Caps for short - a fuel additive pill, that supposedly improves the workings of your car, just like a vitamin pill should for your body.
Super Hamster

Mike the marvellous miracle hamster who survived going through a industry size council shredding machine, and came out the other side completely unharmed (if a little scruffy).
