The world's fastest silicon-based microchip has been demonstrated by scientists in the US. The prototype operates at speeds up to 500 gigahertz (GHz), more than 100 times faster than desktop PC chips. which is an absolutely astounding breakthrough, except that they have to be supercooled using liquid helium. No doubt they'll be part of the next model of iPods

A device that could foil movie pirates who covertly record films in cinemas has been developed in the US. The prototype is able to locate the position of a digital camera, before overwhelming it with white light to render any recorded images useless. This device could also prevent espionage by preventing digital cameras taking pictures of sensitive places, such as in government buildings etc. However this technology doesn't do anything for traditional SLR or film cameras. Back to the drawing board boys...
