The internet: Now with amazing beards
Posted by Aaron on November 30, 2007 11:32 AM
Ah, the beard.
In the Victorian era, no self respecting gentleman would be without a neatly trimmed, immaculately turned out facewarmer, but in recent times the beard has become a scarcity, relegated to the visages of Professors, hard-up students and heavy metal fans of dubious taste.

'I love the python like my sister,' said Sambath. 'All my friends are jealous of her.
I don't think I can add anything to this story, it speaks for itself. Anyone else thinking of that hypnotising snake from the Jungle Book?
What happens if you give an elephant LSD?
Posted by liam on November 27, 2007 9:00 AM
The New Scientist magazine has just published a list of top 10 bizarre experiments. Top of the list was what happens if you give an elephant acid... I mean someone with qualifications and letters after their name, and probably a white lab coat sat down and decided they would see what would happen if you give an elephant some acid. I mean haven't they seen Dumbo?
Take this for a classic quote.
These experiments are not the work of cranks. All were performed by honest, hard-working scientists who were not prepared to accept common-sense explanations of how the world works. Sometimes such single-mindedness leads to brilliant discoveries. At other times it can end up closer to madness. Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing in advance where the journey will lead.
Creepy Urban Legends Monday - The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs
Posted by liam on November 26, 2007 11:00 AM
Here's a pretty famous urban legend for you. It's known by various names but here I'm referring to it as The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs, usually told as a ghost story amongst adolescents. It appeared as a movie back in 1979 When a Stranger Calls (and has inspired thousands of others such as Scream and a remake of When a Stranger Calls)
Dogs, lazers, slow motion jumping... it must be Monday

Chuck Norris the uber macho alpha American male and former action movie star is one of the biggest stars of the internet. Here is a video of him giving his support for a supposed presidential candidate. For the life of me I can't tell if this is a genuine presidential candidate but either way- coolest election video ever.
Giant Scorpion from Dinosaur era - what a great B movie that would make
Posted by liam on November 21, 2007 5:57 PM
Scientists have discovered the fossilized remains of a giant claw, believed to be from a really big sea scorpion of prehistoric times. It would have been big enough to rip a fully grown man into mincemeat - can't wait till it appears in a cheesy horror movie.
Here's a video clip from the BBC (unfortunately not of it attacking a man)
Scared yet? The Government lost your details, who are you again?

Who is king of the ocean? Myth Busters over on the Discovery Channel did a series of tests and experiments to test whether the rumour that sharks won't attack when a dolphin is around
Really surprising results on the video here as they tested this theory with hungry great white sharks.
Don't worry no Dolphins were hurt. Be warned though its a long video about 8 minutes.
How to charge an iPod from an Onion

Geek Chic's answer to global warming, how to cut down on your carbon emissions by using an onion and a sports drink (the video suggest Gatorade but i imagine Lucozade will work just as well) to charge your iPod.
Please note I have no idea if this does or does not work. I accept no responsibility if this damages your iPod or causes a huge oniony explosion

Well here is a list of supposedly true Urban Legends, this happened back in September
Do you know any good urban legends?

Google turns Masseuse into a millionaire

Hooray!! Google Makes Masseuse a Multimillionaire
Bonnie Brown was fresh from a nasty divorce in 1999, living with her sister and uncertain of her future. On a lark, she answered an ad for an in-house masseuse at Google, then a Silicon Valley start-up with 40 employees. She was offered the part-time job, which started out at $450 a week but included a pile of Google stock options that she figured might never be worth a penny. After five years of kneading engineers’ backs, Ms. Brown retired, cashing in most of her stock options, which were worth millions of dollars. To her delight, the shares she held onto have continued to balloon in value.
There is something so right about a woman following a divorce doing a job like this in a start up company coming away a few years later as a millionaire, all i can say is well done her. Hope she lives it up for the rest of her days.
